Spanish Serial Rapist To DR?

'Spaniards were upset Tuesday over the imminent release of a serial rapist who was estimated at high risk of offending again. The man known as "the rapist of Vall d'Hebron," named after the Barcelona neighbourhood where he spread fear among women in the early 1990s, was due to be released at the weekend. The man was sentenced to 113 years in jail for 15 proven cases of rape, but Spanish law only allowed him to serve a maximum of 20 years.' Read more below. According to Clave Digital and the Spanish paper El Periodico José Rodríguez Salvador could be heading to the DR and seemingly with Spanish judicial assistance.

Baninter Trial English Summary

'High-flying Dominican financier Luis Alvarez Renta may find it tough to make his October federal court date in Miami, where he faces contempt of court allegations. But the once-influential dealmaker is playing a leading role in the financial trial of the century in the Dominican Republic where he's accused of being the mastermind of a scheme that looted Banco Intercontinental, or Baninter, leaving it short $2.2 billion and setting the stage for a banking collapse that triggered the worst economic crisis in the Caribbean nation in decades. Much is riding on the trial of Alvarez Renta, former Baninter President Ramón Báez, two former bank vice presidents and the bank secretary. As international law consultant Alberto Binder told the Dominican online news service HoyDigital last week, the trial's outcome will send a message to the world whether the Dominican justice system tolerates corruption and economic crimes or not.' Read more in the Miami Herald: The Baninter case concluded in the DR on Saturday and the verdict will be issued within the next month.
