search Lawrence Welcomes 'La Primera Dama'
'In the Dominican Republic, she is "La Primera Dama," the first lady of that Caribbean country. But last night, Mayor William Lantigua introduced Margarita Cedeno de Fernandez as "Margarita," a humble, simple woman who wanted to learn more about Lawrence, which today is home to many Dominican immigrants, including the mayor himself. Wife of Dominican President Leonel A. Fernandez, the first lady arrived in the city late yesterday afternoon. She first toured the city's new $110 million high school and later spoke to a packed City Council chamber at City Hall. A combination of residents, city councilors and employees and the media filled the room as Fernandez spoke of her strong interest in education, technology, children and helping the poor. Her husband's term expires in 2012 and when asked if someday she might run for president, Fernandez said she'd continue focusing on her duties as first lady and stressed her devotion to her country and its people.'
