search Suit Over Haitian Descendants
'Civil rights lawyers filed a case before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights on Tuesday challenging the Dominican Republic’s treatment of Dominican-born people of Haitian ancestry. Although Haitians have worked in the Dominican Republic for generations and their offspring had long been entitled to Dominican citizenship, in recent years the Dominican government has decided that the offspring of illegal immigrants are not Dominicans. The suit was filed on behalf of a Dominican-born man who has been denied a certified copy of his birth certificate.' http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/02/world/americas/02webbriefs-HAITI.html 0 Comments
